If elected he is pledged to take only the average industrial wage and donate the rest to campaigns for workers rights. You can help his campaign by taking a few leaflets and distributing them to your workmates or friends.

He is also willing to speak to any group of SIPTU members about his policies for bringing change to the union. You can contact them through the following ways.

Kieran Allen is President of the SIPTU Section in UCD, where there are about 600 members and has been on the Education Branch committee for nearly ten years.

His section has run a successful campaign to extend the defined benefit pension scheme to contract staff and, as a result, have recruited nearly 100 extra members. He firmly believes that the union needs to take a stronger stance. He has participated in many SIPTU conferences where he moved resolutions calling on the union to take action.

On one occasion, for example, he moved a successful resolution calling for SIPTU to organise mass demonstrations over the state of the health service. But nothing was done bar writing a letter to the ICTU.

If the strongest union in the Ireland had mobilised, it might have brought some real changes. The General Secretary is charged with running the internal organisation of SIPTU, promoting the education of members and putting over the union case to the general public.

Kieran Allen will help to develop a strong, positive image for SIPTU that will help to strengthen our union. More importantly, he is pledged to help open the way for more grassroots involvements so that we can march forward as a strong, united movement.

The other big vote this year will be on the Lisbon Treaty.

The Treaty will put the EU into a neo-liberal straightjacket.

It will force us to increase military spending.

It does nothing to create a democratic, social Europe. We should vote NO.
